Nigel seemed to win pretty easily, his opponent, Steve Burke, played a Czech defence (or Přibyl system if you like) but this is not an easy opening for Black if you are not Mr Přibyl himself.
Claudio took a draw once Steve Prior won and he'd seen Nigel's position looked better.
Nick's game was rather complicated and both players were in time trouble. Nick tactically offered the draw and his opponent accepted that and then 2 secs later the his flag fell!

And here is very important Steve's game:
Hi Ivan
ReplyDeleteBoard 2 is indeed a Pribyl. I was surprised by Nigel's 1.e4 and aimed to get back into something like my preparation for the game!
I played in provocative style, e.g. 4...Bg4!? and possibly too much with 5...Be6?!
Later, as Nigel said on the night, I should have played 11...cxd5 rather than 11...exd5?!
After that Nigel held the advantage, and didn't give me any chances to equalise, but I think it was only 23...Nxe4?? that lost the game.
After the correct 23...Rb7 I should be okay, if a little worse, in the ending.
