Andrew Hebert drew on the top board and our new, young and talented junior Callum Foard lost with White pieces in Jaenisch gambit. Chris Cumbers drew on the bottom board, so the result of the match was born on the board 2 and 3.

David Griffith on the second board did not play his best when he accumulated his pieces in the centre where they become quite vulnerable. He lost the piece quickly and then he tried to do wonders afterwards. But a piece down with no counterplay and running short of time it was just a matter of time until his position cracked.

The hero of the evening was Ben Mason who outplayed his opponent, however, there was a shortage of time on the both sides. Ben covered all threads on his back ranks and then he delivered the final blow threatening the checkmate gaining the decisive point for Grantham.
