Claudio Mangione of Grantham Chess Club is new Lincolnshire County Chess Champion! Claudio took over the title from reigning Champion - another Grantham player - Paul Cumbers.
The event took place thanks to tremendous effort of Kevin McCarthy in The Atrium, Lindum Business Park in Lincoln from 14th to 15th July, 2012.
Claudio overplayed his opponents and finished tournament with stunning result 5/5!!! His grading performance was 216.
Below you can see the game when Claudio (193 ECF) faced to former Lincolnshire County Champion - Paul Cumbers (197 ECF). An English Opening [A26] and Claudio playing Whites chose for Botvinnik setup. Paul decided to play sharp line with ...h5. Both players followed the game Kasparov-Short from Linares 1990 (see section "Instructive Masterpieces") and then, in the move 14, Claudio came up with certain novelty. Paul castled long and on the board "opposite-flank-attack" scenario emerged. There was the only question remaining: "Who will be faster?"
